Why do dogs Love to chew and chase ?
Well every breed is a relative of a wolf species, so before the dog became a pet and feed kibble they had to hunt to eat. So basically dogs are genetically produced to chew, tear and rip any type of prey related or simulated objects. Most dogs are fed a diet that requires very little chewing. However they have not lost their desire to chew and tear their catch of the day.
Crazy to think the dog lying right next to your feet has ancient relatives that were wild hunting dogs living in a pack.
If you have a dog that loves to chew then chances are you have a dog that loves to chase, this is how the hunt begins. It’s important to give your dog a chance to chase its toys. That gives your dog a outlet for its natural behavior that could result in your dog chasing something else like a car a kid or whatever you probably don’t want your dog chasing.
Did you know?
That some dogs prefer toys that roll, as that means they like the long chase.
A dog toy that rolls well
Some dogs prefer toys that are shaped to bounce erratically as they simulate a chase of a live prey.
Erratically bouncing toy
So once Fido gets the ball/toy he feels accomplished happy with himself that he just handled business. Of course we can’t forget the shake or the toss just to make sure the ball is dead and not moving on its own then fido comes back for another throw or he goes and trys to chew and destroy his catch.
Once captured and killed, then fido wants to chew the carcass “the toy” open.
Now he will use his paws to hold the carcass while tears little pieces and either eats them or completely leaves a mess in you home or yard. Fido feels satisfied while you feel ripped off. This is why we are in business, because dogs love to chew .
Even old dogs love to chew! Some people think its only a puppy thing, no way its a natural instinct for our dogs to chew and chase at all ages.
